7 October 2011
So many smaller towns and villages are now becoming well known for their fresh produce markets, whether morning markets, moonlight markets or Sunday markets. Take Greyton as an example, or Sedgefield, or Hoekwil near the Wilderness. Many organic farmers and home 'bakers' only sell their produce at markets such as these.
In the last few months a number of visitors who stop off at Pascal' restaurant have enquired about our local market and we have sent them down to the Saturday Market - the one adjacent to the Agri. Well frankly, the feedback has been pretty poor to say the least! The question begs - why can't Napier get it's act together as far as a proper market is concerned.(No offence to those currently at the market). Why is there is no central market - we have some people with stalls at the Agri, others next to the clinic at the entrance to Nuwerus.
And… where are the bakers with their breads and sweet things, where are the people selling cheese and dairy, jams, cushion covers - the list could go on and on - we have all these industries in our town. I truly believe that if the variety is big enough and the quality good enough, the market will attract more people - both local and from further afield.
So here's the challenge. We need to let people know we are up to producing an EXCELLENT local produce market If we as a village can get our act together and create one market that is worth visiting, Pascal's of Napier will sponsor a nice big banner advertising the morning market that we can put up at the entrance to the village to let the world know we host the best market in the Overberg.
Are you ready to take up the challenge?

Napier Village Fair & the "FOOT OF AFRICA"
22 & 23 October 2011
The 'Foot of Africa' Marathon is just around the corner with some 3000 athletes arriving in our region to participate in this well known event.
Registration for the event opens at 5pm on 21st - Friday and participants and their families will be coming to the area, the majority through Napier. The prize giving is around 12h00 on Saturday and again, many will be staying over in the area - including Napier, others heading home.
It is proposed that we have a Village Fair on Saturday and Sunday
in Napier. This essentially means: businesses being open on both
these days, offering a festive atmosphere (a la Patatfees) in
the village and capturing the visitors.
A short meeting has been scheduled to affect plans around this idea:
Date: Tuesday 11 October 2011
Place: PASCAL's on Sarel Cilliers Street
1. Outline the details
2. Garner support and commitment
3. Finalise the marketing of the Village Fair
Who should attend?
All product/service providers in Napier such as restaurateurs, accommodation providers, business owners and more.
What you can do?
Have tours of your facility e.g. Nobuntu or Napier Brewery
Maybe a pavement display table.
Put out your "scarecrows" outside your premises
Theme your product/fare along the "Voet van Afrika"

A Message from Barend Smit of the Napier NG Kerk:
On October 16th we are having our annual HARVEST FESTIVAL!!!
With this we want to give God all the glory for the harvest of 2011. Therefore we invite everyone, young and old, to join in this
unique worship service. During the service the well-known choir "akKOORd" will also perform. As a community we also
want to give something back to the Lord. Therefore we urge everybody to bring non-perishables along to church. These products will
then be used for local child welfare. We as a community realise our dependency on agriculture and invite everyone to come and show
their gratefulness by joining in the bi-lingual worship service. It will be held at 09:30 in the Dutch Reformed church Napier
